Welcome to the GetUp! Faithful…

14 07 2008

Hi there,

If you have come to this site via the GetUp! Immigration Detention campaign, we bid you an extra hearty welcome!

I was thrilled to get a call from the folks at GetUp!, asking to use sections of ‘We Will Be Remembered For This’ to frame their latest campaign to bring an end to Australia’s system of mandatory indefinite immigration detention. We are really delighted to be able to assist the efforts of such a groundbreaking and innovative organisation – and for such a good cause!

If you’ve followed this link because you’re interested in finding out more about ‘We Will Be Remembered For This’, you can see the contact and ordering info on a tab above. While you’re here, watch the trailers, check out the FAQs, have a read and a look around.

In spite of the positive murmurs that have come out of the Labor Government’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship, there is still a very long way to go, and many people are still sitting in detention. One guy I visit has been in detention for almost 9 years. This system is very, very broken, and we must see it fixed!
Do what you can to assist in the GetUp! campaign. Make a submission to the Joint Standing Committee Inquiry into Immigration Detention (you can find all the info you need, terms of reference etc, here). Learn something, write to a detainee, write to a politician, read a book, tell your friends… there are all sorts of things you can do to bring about a slow but steady change in the world around you…

In the meantime, thanks for reading!

Cheers
