Hey there, you can see us on the Melbourne Writers’ Festival programme here. The programme says 5.30 – 6.30, but in actual fact the event will run from 5.30 – 7.
In 2006, a group of people took a trip to Baxter Immigration Detention Centre in South Australia and their life-changing reactions were caught on film by Jessie Taylor. Following her documentary screening, Julian Burnside leads a discussion with Taylor and some of the participants.

Breaking News! WWBR will be screened at the Melbourne Writers’ Festival at 7pm on Sunday August 26, at the Malthouse theatre. Very exciting news! The screening will be followed by a panel comprising Jessie Taylor & Julian Burnside QC. If you haven’t been to a biggish Melbourne screening yet, this should be a good’un! if your Set Top Box is in working order, you read this before the evening of Tuesday July 3, you have time to watch it, and your Foxtel Pay TV account is fully paid up …. A driver, writer and producer of the movie, Jessie Taylor was interviewed with others during Project SafeCom’s World Refugee Day event in Fremantle, and she comments on the movie (Foxtel coverage also shows snippets of the movie) during the interview.
The 15-minute coverage will go to air on FOX-TV this Tuesday 3 July. In Western Australia screening time will be 8:30pm (Foxtel Digital, Channel 183), under the program name of Perth City Talks, and I believe the program screens in the Eastern States at 10:00pm or 10:30pm.

Just a quick update on what’s been going on. Since the preview screening at Monash on June 9, ‘We Will Be Remembered For This’ has been having an absolute whale of a time. It has been showcased in Melbourne (again – at the official launch at the State Library of Victoria on 20 June), in Western Australia (at the Project Safecom World Refugee Day event, 22 June), and in living rooms across the country! We are currently teeing up screenings in Brisbane, Bundaberg, Canberra and Sydney, and a copy is on its way to Dili, East Timor.
A reminder again – if you want to hold your own screening, contact us and get your mitts on a copy of the DVD. Use it as a fundraiser for your organisation or for a human rights organisation in your area. If you want to talk to us about that, feel free to ask what would be a good recipient for your hard-raised dollars!
The very next post will give ordering details, to make the process of acquiring a DVD as easy as possible.
